Ingredients for Shaker Raised Doughnuts Recipe

  • 3 medium-sized potatoes
  • Pot of boiling water
  • 2 cups sifted flour
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tablespoons homemade yeast
  • Flour
  • Beef fat

Instructions

  1. Boil potatoes and mash.
  2. While still hot, add salt, sifted flour, and enough of the boiling potato water to make a batter.
  3. When cool, add yeast and flour enough to knead.
  4. Let this rise over night.
  5. Roll out and cut into pieces three inches long, two inches wide and one-half inch thick.
  6. Let these rise ten minutes before frying in deep beef fat.
  7. Serve with maple syrup.
