Ingredients for Shaker Raised Doughnuts Recipe
- 3 medium-sized potatoes
- Pot of boiling water
- 2 cups sifted flour
- Salt to taste
- 2 tablespoons homemade yeast
- Flour
- Beef fat
Instructions
- Boil potatoes and mash.
- While still hot, add salt, sifted flour, and enough of the boiling potato water to make a batter.
- When cool, add yeast and flour enough to knead.
- Let this rise over night.
- Roll out and cut into pieces three inches long, two inches wide and one-half inch thick.
- Let these rise ten minutes before frying in deep beef fat.
- Serve with maple syrup.
