Instructions

  1. Boil together for five minutes one cup of maple syrup and one cup of sugar; add one-quarter of a teaspoon of cream of tartar, two teaspoons of butter and two teaspoons of vinegar.
  2. After it has boiled until it is brittle when tried in cold water, pour it into buttered pans to cool.
  3. When cool enough to handle, pull it until it becomes hard, then cut it in pieces and allow it to stand two or three days to become "ripened."
