Halloween Drinks

Halloween Drinks

Some Halloween drinks look scary while others just sound scary. The zombie is a scary sounding drink whose looks are deceiving. This drink is dangerous on so many levels that it is not only perfect for Halloween, but it should have it’s own holiday.

I Walked with A Zombie

The zombie probably earned its name because that's what you look and feel like after drinking two of them. The reason the zombie is so dangerous is because it looks harmless. The zombie is pink and, really, how strong could a pink drink be? In this case, the answer is very strong. The other part of the zombie's seduction is that it is sweet. The zombie is made with three types of rum and apricot brandy, making it a sweet and easy drink. As easy as a zombie is to drink, I assure you that one too many of these tasty drinks will turn you into an extra from the Night of the Living Brain Dead.

Ingredients

  • 1 ounce of unsweetened pineapple juice
  • Juice of one lime
  • Juice of half an orange
  • ½ ounce of apricot brandy
  • 2 ½ ounces of light rum
  • 1 ounce of dark rum
  • 1 ounce of passion fruit syrup
  • ½ ounce of 151-proof rum
  • 2 dashes grenadine

Instructions

  1. Place all ingredients, except 151-proof rum, into a blender with half a cup of ice.
  2. Blend at low speed for a minute or two.
  3. Strain into a highball glass.
  4. Garnish with a red cherry and, if you have them, a green cherry.
  5. Float the ½ ounce of 151-proof rum on top of the drink.

Wormy Jell O Shots

Jell-o shots add fun to your party and a freezer filled with wormy Jell-o shots will definitely get your guests in the Halloween mood. Although gummy worms are easily available and fun, you might want to check out your local candy store to see if they have any other gummy creepy crawlies available. Just make sure the gummy critter is small enough to fit in a shot glass, making your Halloween drinks scary and deliciously gross.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups water
  • 3 packages of Jell-o
  • 2 cups of vodka
  • Gummy worms or other gummy creepy crawly

Instructions

  1. Bring the water to a boil.
  2. Add the Jell-o mix and stir constantly until it dissolves.
  3. Continue to stir for two more minutes.
  4. Let the mixture cool for a few minutes before adding the vodka.
  5. Mix the vodka into the Jell-o thoroughly.
  6. Pour the Jell-o into shot glasses (plastic shot glasses work best).
  7. Place the shots in your freezer and check after fifteen minutes.
  8. Add the worms to the shots.
  9. Let the wormy shots firm up, overnight is best.

The Black Cat

Halloween is the perfect time for a black cat. This drink is sure to be a hit with all your witchy friends.

Ingredients

  • 1 ounce vodka
  • 1 ounce cherry brandy
  • Cranberry juice
  • Cola

Instructions

  1. Fill a highball glass with ice.
  2. Add the vodka and the brandy.
  3. Add equal amounts of cola and cranberry juice to fill the glass.

Death in the Afternoon

This drink was named after Hemmingway’s book. The book has nothing to do with Halloween, but the name has enough of a macabre tinge to it that it would fit in at any Halloween cocktail party.

One very important point...the original recipe for Death in the Afternoon calls for absinthe. Up until recently, absinthe was illegal in the United States and could still be illegal in your state. There are those who feel that absinthe is far too dangerous to drink and to those I say use Pernod. Pernod has a taste that is similar enough to absinthe to give the drink the proper flavor.

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ ounces Absinthe (or Pernod)
  • 4 ounces Champagne

Instructions

  1. Pour the Absinthe into a champagne flute.
  2. Pour the champagne into the glass.
