As faithful purveyors of monsters and mayhem, most of us want to throw a shindig that can scare and entertain and one sure fire way to do that is to come up with gross recipes for Halloween.

Zombie Cake

Think Outside the Cake Box

Sweets are probably the easiest thing to make when gross recipes for Halloween are needed. You can widdle a cake in to darn near anything these days thanks to the new art form of extreme cakes. The sky is pretty much the limit. Wilton makes great cake pans you can use to get a standard shape that you can then decorate to suit your needs – like a series of cake rounds stacked and then carved into a head shape. You can remove the top of the head and gut it, filling it with strawberry jam. When you slice into the head, its brains will spill out all over the table. Not the tidiest of cakes, but the effect is cool and very gross.

But gross recipes for Halloween are not all about the cake. Normal party food can be just as gross. Eyeballs, fingers, and even kitty litter can all become recipes to gross out your friends. Never forget about the snot or brain matter Jell-o, which are simple items with strong innuendo that just screams gross.

Presentation can also go a great distance to promote the gross factor in your food this Halloween season. Consider exactly what makes something gross but keep in mind that what you find sick is not always in line with the thinking of others. Plastic corpses are easy enough to find at any Halloween store and these nifty things – once dressed up with clothing, maybe some latex and newspaper stuff – can become cool looking serving trays. The stomach cavity, for instance, is a nice place to store the lime green chunky Jell-o or perhaps a bowl of white chocolate worms in a belly full of Oreo cookie crumbs. A mad scientist’s lab can be a great setup for bubbling, fizzing, and smoking cocktails – body part snacks and the like.

Ideas for Gross Recipes for Halloween

Now that you are planning a Halloween dinner party, you need some good ideas for what to serve the little ghouls and ghosts. They certainly cannot go out on murdering sprees or zombie walks on an empty stomach!

Bowl of Dirt: Simple recipe that includes dusted Oreo cookies and sour gummy worms or jelly worms dipped in semi-sweet chocolate.

Severed Hand Punch: Fruit punch is always a crowd pleasure but add a little surprise to it by including a severed hand. Making a severed hand is easy. All you have to do is fill a latex glove with water and freeze it. Jell-o can also be used and dyed to look fleshy. Both will float in the punch.

Coffin Sandwiches: Peanut butter and jelly or peanut butter and marshmallow fluff are usually popular, so just cut your pieces of bread in the shape of a coffin. Then, coat them with melted chocolate. Lo Mein noodles can be cut to smaller sizes at the proper bends then inserted in the sides of cakes to look like hands.

Brain Loaf: Meatloaf is a tasty dish, but how tasty will it seem if it looks like a brain? Make your meatloaf recipe as normal and, instead of shoving it inside a loaf pan, place it inside a brain Jell-o mold. Make sure you spray it with olive oil and you can flip it out on to a baking sheet to bake. When the meat loaf is finished baking, fill a syringe with warm spaghetti sauce and inject the loaf with it.

Cat Barf Salad: Cut an avocado in half, remove the pit, and scoop out the meat. Mash it up a bit but leave some lumps. Grate some carrots and divide the grated carrots among some salad bowls. Add alfalfa sprouts to the avocado mix and combine them. Scoop out small almond sized amounts and place on top of the carrots. Add some Italian dressing for the phlegm.

Bursting Zit: Baking a soufflé can be a tough undertaking, but for this recipe it is well worth it. Bake a white chocolate soufflé by using white chocolate or white chocolate wafer melts colored with flesh tone food dye. Make a mint filling and inject it in to the soufflé when it comes out of the oven. The small puncture from the syringe won’t make the soufflé fall if you fill it along the side of the cup.

A Final Word

Halloween is all about imagination. Have fun with this extra special day where it is okay to have fun scaring people and grossing others out. Your food doesn’t have to be bland and boring. Use your imagination and get as sick and disgusting as you can.
