Frozen Strawberry Daiquiri Recipes
From LoveToKnow Recipes
There are many great alcoholic (and non-alcoholic) dessert drinks but none can really compare to great frozen strawberry daiquiri recipes.
Origins of the Daiquiri
Many alcoholic drinks have an interesting story associated with them and the daiquiri is not left out. This popular drink was created, as the story goes, by a group of American miners in 1905 in a bar located in Santiago, Cuba, which is close to a beach that shares the name of the mine:" Daiquiri."
Originally served in a tall glass, this pungent drink remained in Cuba until around 1909. The drink spread its wings when a US Naval Officer had a taste and whisked it back to the states with him. He took the recipe to the Army and Navy clubs where it grew in popularity. In the 40s, alcohol like whiskey and vodka were rationed by the military but the Good Neighbor Policy of Roosevelt allowed for easy acquisition of rum with free trade to Cuba.
The Other Daiquiris
A basic daiquiri, as you will see, is very simple to make and only has three ingredients. It’s an interesting historic fact that the daiquiri is a drink that is very close to what was included in the rations (when available and used in place of water) of British sailors in the 1740s: grog.
The Basic Daiquiri Recipe
Ingredients
- Juice of two limes
- 3 ounces of light rum
- 1 teaspoon of sugar
- Glass of ice
Method
- Place ice in tall glass
- Pour sugar over ice
- Add lime juice
- Add rum
- Stir
Popular alternative additions to the basic recipe include:
- Replace the rum with cherry liqueur; known as “Daiquiri Floridita”
- Use 6 ounces of rum instead of 3; known as “Papa Doble” which was named after Ernest Hemingway
- 2 ounces of cherry liqueur in addition to the rum, 86 the sugar and add a splash of grapefruit juice; named the “Hemingway Special”. Sometimes this recipe and Papa Doble are mixed together.
Frozen Strawberry Daiquiri Recipes
This original recipe was turned on its head by making many frozen varieties. The most popular of the frozen daiquiri is made with strawberries and can be found at most bars. The frozen strawberry daiquiri is the most popular drink served at Medieval Times where the basic mix is in a slushy machine with rum being added after it’s dispensed.
The basic concept of the frozen daiquiri (as with most frozen drinks) is that the ice is pulverized to a fine mess then stirred into the drink. Many recipes call for throwing all the ingredients, including the ice, inside a blender and running it until the drink is mixed and the ice properly crushed.

The Virgin Strawberry Daiquiri
Not everyone needs to be served alcohol in order to have a good time let alone enjoy the taste of a frozen strawberry daiquiri. There is nothing you really need to do in order to make a strawberry daiquiri a virgin except by omitting the alcohol.
