Ingredients for English Muffins Recipe 1

  • 4 cups flour
  • 1 1/2 cups lukewarm water
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2/3 yeast cake dissolved in 1/3 cup cold water

Instructions

  1. Add the salt and dissolved yeast cake to the warm water. Gradually stir in the flour.
  2. Beat the dough thoroughly.
  3. Cover and let rise in a warm place for five hours.
  4. On a floured board, shape the dough into balls about twice as large as an egg. Flatten to one-third of an inch thick.
  5. Lay these on a warm griddle that has been lightly greased and let them rise slowly.
  6. As soon as they have risen a little, increase the heat and cook slowly, turning often.
  7. They should take 20 minutes to rise and 15 minutes to bake.
  8. Tear them apart and butter while hot.
