Ingredients for Coddled Apples Recipe

  • 8 medium sized red apples, cored
  • 1 3/4 cups boiling water
  • 3/4 cup corn syrup
  • 3 cloves
  • Small piece stick cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Place the apples in a flat saucepan with the water, corn syrup, and spices.
  2. Cover and simmer gently on top of the stove or in the oven for about two hours, turning the apples occasionally so they will not burst.
  3. When done, they will be almost translucent.
  4. Remove from the pan and pour the syrup over.
  5. When chilled, it will be thick enough to "jell."
