Chocolate Meringue Pie Recipe

Ingredients for Chocolate Meringue Pie Recipe
- 3/4 cup plus 6 tablespoons sugar
- 5 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
- 5 tablespoons cornstarch
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 cups milk
- 3 eggs, separated
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 prebaked 9-inch pie crust
- 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- In a medium bowl, beat together the 3/4 cup sugar, cocoa, cornstarch, and salt
- Slowly mix in the milk,
- Pour into a saucepan and heat on medium. Stir constantly until thick and just started to bubble.
- Turn heat down to low and stir for 2 more minutes more.
- Pour 1 cup of mixture into a separate bowl and blend in the egg yolks.
- Pour back into saucepan and bring to a boil for 2 minutes while stirring.
- Remove from stove and add vanilla.
- Pour mixture into pie crust.
- In another bowl, mix the egg whites with tartar until peaks start forming.
- Slowly add 6 tablespoons of sugar.
- Beat until firm.
- Pour over pie, letting the meringue spread across the entire pie.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes.
