For many of us, punch recipes bring to mind grade school dances and Halloween parties. Those punches, which were really just fruit juice or a flavored drink with orange slices floating in it, served their purpose—making kids feel more grown-up, and a little bit fancy, at school and social functions.
But, just like us, punch recipes have grown up. Now we can enjoy a glass of punch as a simple tasty treat but also to help us meet our daily fruit requirements. Many of the punch recipes on this page, like Hawaiian punch and German punch, not only include fruit juice but also fresh fruit slices. Even if your favorite punch recipe doesn’t call for fresh fruit, a slice of pineapple or some strawberry bits can dress it up.
Punch Recipes—Not Just for Kids
If you want a more sophisticated drink, try the claret punch and Roman punch. Both contain alcohol but the drink will be just as yummy if you exclude it. Remember to indulge in punch only on special occasions and to use punch glasses. They’re a small size for a reason—although they taste great, they are by no means a diet drink. The downside to all that fruit juice is the calorie content, so be careful not to spoil a meal by filling up on the drink. And while you’re at it, check out the Halloween Drinks article above. It includes drink and punch recipes that will put scare your party guests by their presentation alone.
