Lobster Recipes
From LoveToKnow Recipes
Lobster recipes used to be a vacation-only dinner for people not lucky enough to live near waters where this shellfish lives. Even today, lobster has a wealthy reputation, since inland it is usually featured on the menu at 'market price,' which typically means 'if you have to ask, you can't afford it.'
Now that transportation networks can quickly deliver fresh lobster live to most markets, the price isn't quite as daunting as it once was. But for many, this seafood is still either a 'fancy restaurant' entree or a Maine-vacation treat.
It is perhaps ironic that lobster recipes are considered such a 'fancy' meal, since eating one is a messy affair best done at home or in a seafood-shack style of restaurant where butter can drip down your arm without ruining your formal clothes.
At-home Lobster Recipes
If you have access to live fresh lobsters at your local markets, you can make a wonderful dinner very quickly. Lobster recipes are, at their finest, cooked simply: dropped into boiling water and boiled until done and served with drawn butter.
Warning to parents: if you are dining out with small children and they want to try the lobster you are ordering, think twice. Many restaurants present it 'sitting up' on the plate. Having seen the live lobsters in the tank when they came in only to find out they are now going to rip the cute little guy apart is often too much for some soft-hearted, animal-loving children. If the kids want to try it, you might want to order one of the lobster en casserole entrees, where the seafood's live origins aren't quite so obvious.
