Instructions

  1. Follow the recipe for Soft Custard, using corn syrup.
  2. Chill and serve with a topping of Whipped Cream.
  3. To make this go further, pour the custard into a glass dish lined with strips of sponge cake and softened with sweetened strong coffee.
  4. Soft Custard Recipe
  5. 1 pint milk
  6. 1/4 cup corn syrup
  7. Few grains salt
  8. 1 egg yolk
  9. 1-1/2 tablespoon Argo or Kingsfords Cornstarch
  10. 2 or 3 drops vanilla
  11. Scald the milk in a double boiler.
  12. Stir together the egg yolk, corn syrup, cornstarch and salt.
  13. Add to the scalded milk and cook, stirring gently, until the mixture coats the spoon -- about three minutes.
  14. Chill, flavor and use as a custard or sauce.
