Ingredients for Candied Sweet Potatoes

  • 12 sweet potatoes
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • Brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup vegetable shortening
  • Salt, pepper, and powdered cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Pare and parboil potatoes.
  2. Cut the potatoes in half and boil for 10 minutes. Drain and lay in greased baking dish.
  3. Spread with vegetable shortening, sprinkle with brown sugar, salt, pepper, and powdered cinnamon.
  4. Pour in boiling water and cook until tender.
  5. Baste often with sauce in pan while cooking.
  6. The cinnamon may be omitted if desired.
