Ingredients for Aerated Oatmeal Gems Recipe
- 1 1/2 cups milk
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons melted vegetable fat or butter
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 1/3 cups rolled oats
- 1/2 cup entire wheat or Graham flour
Instructions
- Put sugar, milk, salt, and fat into a bowl and mix well.
- Add rolled oats and flour.
- Mix to a smooth batter and set in a cold place overnight.
- Beat a few times with a spoon then drop the batter into hot, oiled iron gem pans and bake in a medium oven to a nice brown.
NOTE: Only iron gem pans should be used for aerated breads since the expansion of the batter is caused by the contrast between the hot irons and the cold batter.
