Ingredients for Yorkshire Fruit Loaves Recipe
- 2 lbs. flour
- ¾ cup vegetable shortening
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 cups milk
- 1 yeast cake
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup sultana raisins
- 1 cup currants
- ½ cup seeded raisins
- ½ cup chopped candied citron peel
- 1 teaspoon powdered ginger
- ½ teaspoon powdered mace
Instructions
- Heat vegetable shortening in milk, then cool and add yeast cake mixed with a little sugar.
- Stir in flour and salt and allow to rise four hours.
- Mix sugar, fruit, peel, and spices into risen dough.
- Let rise again, then divide into two greased loaf tins.
- Allow to rise fifteen minutes, then bake at 400 degrees for 90 minutes.
- Sufficient for two medium-sized loaves.
