Ingredients for Tart Apple Pie Recipe

  • 4-6 tart apples
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 teaspoon nutmeg
  • Sprinkle of powdered sugar
  • 2 pie crusts

Instructions

  1. Line a pie pan with plain crust and fill with thinly sliced, peeled, and cored apples.
  2. Add the water and cover with a top crust without connecting the two crusts.
  3. Cut a few slits in the center of the top crust to allow stream to escape while cooking.
  4. Brush with beaten egg yolk.
  5. When baked, and while still hot, remove the top crust carefully and sprinkle sugar over the cooked apple. Dot with butter or butter substitute.
  6. Replace the top crust and dust with powdered sugar.
