Ingredients for Swedish Tea Ring Recipe

  • 1 cup scalded milk
  • ¾ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • 6 tablespoons shortening
  • 1/8 cup finely chopped nuts
  • 1 yeast cake softened in¼ cup warm water
  • 3-½ cups flour
  • 1 egg

Instructions

  1. Add the scalded milk to the salt, sugar, and shortening.
  2. When lukewarm, add the yeast.
  3. Add one-half of the flour and beat well.
  4. Let rise until very light.
  5. When light, add the egg and the remaining flour and beat well.
  6. Let rise.
  7. Divide the dough into two parts and shape each in a long, round piece and form two circles, placing the circles on a baking tin.
  8. Brush with egg white and sprinkle with finely chopped nuts.
  9. With a large pair of scissors, cut toward the center of the ring, but not quite to the center, at intervals of two inches, placing the cut section each time flat on the tin, giving it a petal-like appearance.
  10. When light, bake in a moderate oven (350-400 degrees F.) until lightly browned.
