Strawberry Shortcake Recipe 4

Ingredients for Strawberry Shortcake
  • 3 cups flour
  • ½ cup vegetable shortening
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1½ pints strawberries
  • 1 cup whipped cream

Instructions
  1. Sift the flour with the baking powder, salt and sugar, then cut in the vegetable shortening with a knife, add egg well beaten, and milk.
  2. The dough should be a soft one.
  3. Roll in two layers, spread in two vegetable shorteninged pans and bake in a hot oven until a light brown color.
  4. Mash and sweeten one cup of the strawberries, put on one layer, then place second layer on top.
  5. Sweeten remainder of strawberries, spread on top layer, and cover with the whipped cream.
  6. Decorate with whole ripe strawberries.
