Instructions

  1. To one pint of rich buttermilk add one even teaspoon of baking soda and beat well; stir in half a teaspoon of salt and enough graham flour to make a batter rather stiffer than cake batter; pat into two thin cakes and bake in a brisk oven.
  2. If you object to this amount of crust lay one on top of the other to bake, with bits of butter between.
  3. Have ready a quart of strawberries sweetened and mashed.
  4. Pull the cakes apart, butter and spread the fruit between and on top.
  5. Eat with plenty of rich, sweetened cream.
