Instructions

1. Bake sponge cake of any variety in a sheet; cut the cake into pieces of a size suitable for individual service and split each piece.
2. Have ready some hulled-and-washed berries, mixed with sugar.
3. Put the prepared berries between and above the pieces of cake.Serve with a pitcher of cream.
4. The cake may be hot or cold, but it is best when freshly made.
