Strawberry Daiquiri Recipe

From LoveToKnow Recipes

Daiquiris are one of the best tasting things to come out of Cuba since the Cuban pork sandwich and when you mix a strawberry daiquiri recipe with a little sunshine, you’ll feel like you’re there.

Strawberry Daiquiri

A Taste of the Caribbean

Legend has it that the first daiquiri was created in Cuba around 1905. Initially, a daiquiri was a tall glass filled with ice, sugar added to the ice, lime juice squeezed over it, and then rum poured over the ice. This was nice, but it didn’t get the flavors mixed very well.

The next step in the evolution of the daiquiri was that the drink was shaken, not stirred. This allowed the flavors to mix better and the ice to chill the rum better. The daiquiri was now ready to meet the world.

The Way Papa Liked It

The daiquiri was Ernest Hemingway’s favorite drink. When he wasn’t falling under the spell of the Mojito, Papa would bask irn the glorious glow of the daiquiri. Hemingway liked his daiquiris with a double the usual amount of rum, maraschino cherry juice, and a nice dose of grapefruit juice.

Mix It Up a Bit

During the 1940s, everything from Latin America was wildly popular from fashion and music to rum drinks. As the daiquiri became more popular, new variations developed.

As with the current trend to refer to anything served in a martini glass a 'martini', the daiquiri also had many variations in its heyday. It seemed that any drink with rum and sugar was called a daiquiri. The passion daiquiri has a dash of passion fruit juice. The melon daiquiri has sake instead of rum and actual melons blended in. But to many people, the daiquiri reached its perfection when it was introduced to the strawberry.

Like the margarita and the pina colada, the strawberry daiquiri is a drink that is either served on a beach or is served when you wish you were on a beach. Hot summer days are the perfect time to pull out your strawberry daiquiri recipe.

Strawberry Peach Daiquiri

You can always go with a strawberry-peach daiquiri for a nice change of pace.

Ingredients

  • 2 ounces of fresh strawberries with the caps (the green leafy part) cut off
  • 3 ounces of light rum
  • 1 ounce of peach schnapps
  • ¼ cup of sugar
  • Juice of one lime

Instructions

  1. Put everything in a blender with a cup of ice.
  2. Blend briefly.
  3. Strain into a glass.

Tips And Hints

  • I like to keep fresh-frozen strawberries in my freezer and I have found that using them instead of ice cubes adds more strawberry flavor instead of diluting the flavor like ice would.
  • Be sure to garnish with sliced strawberries.
