Ingredients for Southern Cornbread Recipe 1

• 2 cups corn meal
• 1 tablespoon cornstarch
• 1 teaspoon salt
• 1 scant teaspoon soda
• 1 tablespoon corn syrup
• 1 egg, well beaten
• 2 tablespoons corn oil
• 2 cups sour milk or buttermilk

Instructions

1. Mix together corn meal, cornstarch, salt, soda, corn syrup, egg, corn oil, and milk.
2. Beat and pour into medium-sized pan oiled with corn oil.
3. Bake 30 minutes at 375 degrees.
4. May be made with sweet milk and 2 teaspoons of baking powder instead of sour milk and soda.
