Instructions

  1. Whip the sour cream very stiff, adding the white of an egg, and beating all up together; chop very fine some common shagbark walnuts, English walnuts, or, better still, butternuts, which make the cake very rich and toothsome.
  2. Stir these through the cream, add one teaspoon of vanilla, or a little more if the filling seems to need it, and then stir in sugar until the filling tastes sweet; now it is ready to spread between the layers of the cake, heaping it roughly on top.
