Shaker Raised Doughnuts Recipe

Instructions

  1. Boil three medium-sized potatoes and mash.
  2. While hot add two cups of sifted flour, enough of the boiling potato water to make a batter, and salt to taste.
  3. When cool add two tablespoons of homemade yeast and flour enough to knead.
  4. Let this rise over night.
  5. Roll out and cut into pieces three inches long, two inches wide and one-half inch thick.
  6. Let these rise ten minutes before frying in deep beef fat.
  7. If made properly they should have large holes in them when broken.
  8. Serve with maple syrup.
