Ingredients for Rusks Recipe

  • ½ cup milk, scalded
  • 2¼ cups flour
  • 2 tablespoons shortening, melted
  • ½ cup water
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • ½ teaspoon grated nutmeg
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 5 teaspoons baking powder

Instructions

  1. Sift and mix together flour, salt, brown sugar and baking powder.
  2. Add nutmeg and cinnamon.
  3. Add beaten egg, milk and melted shortening to the water.
  4. Pour into the first mixture and mix well.
  5. Turn out on floured board.
  6. Divide into small pieces, shape into rolls and place on greased pans not too close together.
  7. Allow to stand for about 15 minutes.
  8. Brush top with a little milk and sprinkle with a little brown sugar.
  9. Bake in moderate oven for 25 to 30 minutes.
