Ingredients for Raisin And Buttermilk Bread Recipe

  • 4 cups flour
  • 5 tablespoons vegetable shortening
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • 2 teaspoons cream of tartar
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • Buttermilk to make soft dough
  • 1 cup sultana raisins

Instructions

  1. Sift flour, salt, soda, and cream of tartar into basin.
  2. Rub in vegetable shortening, add sugar, raisins, eggs well beaten, and sufficient buttermilk to make soft dough.
  3. Make into smooth mound and roll out.
  4. Divide into four pieces. Lay each on a greased tin and bake at 400 degrees for about twenty-five minutes.
  5. Sufficient to make four small loaves.
