Instructions

  1. Cream together one large cup of sugar and one-half a cup of butter.
  2. Add one beaten egg and mix well.
  3. Add one full pint of light bread dough and one level teaspoon of baking powder and beat hard with the hand until soft and white.
  4. Sprinkle in a little grated nutmeg, and one-half wineglass of sherry or whiskey.
  5. Flour one cup of mixed stoned raisins and sliced citron and stir in lightly.
  6. Place a round of buttered paper in a deep, round cake pan, pour in the cake mixture and bake for one hour or more in a slow oven.
  7. This cake is better a day or two after making.
  8. If uncut it will keep for some time.
