Ingredients for Penoche Recipe

  • 3 cups brown sugar
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 cup nut meats, crushed

Instructions

  1. Put the sugar and milk into a saucepan and cook to the soft-ball stage, or 236 degrees F.
  2. Remove from heat, add butter and vanilla, and cool without stirring.
  3. When it is lukewarm, beat until it is creamy.
  4. Stir in the nut meats.
  5. Hickory nuts or English walnuts are especially nice.
  6. Pour into a buttered pan and when it hardens mark into squares.
