Instructions

  1. Sift 1 1/2 cups flour and 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder.
  2. With tips of fingers work into flour 1 tablespoon vegetable shortening, and when well mixed add 1/2 cup milk.
  3. Peel and slice 4 peaches, and mix with 3/4 cup sugar and 2 tablespoons melted vegetable shortening.
  4. In bottom of baking dish invert a cup, around this arrange peaches, and over all place dough patted out to about 3/4 of an inch in thickness.
  5. Bake in moderate oven until crust is brown and peaches are tender.
  6. This will require about 40 minutes.
  7. The cup keeps dough from lying on fruit and becoming soaked with juice.
