Ingredients for Nougat Recipe 2

  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1/3 cup corn syrup
  • 1 cup water
  • 4 egg whites, well beaten
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 1/2 cups nut meats
  • 1/2 cup candied cherries

Instructions

  1. Boil together 1 cup sugar, 1/2 cup water, and half of the corn syrup to the crack stage (280 degrees F).
  2. Remove the syrup from heat and pour it slowly over the well-beaten whites and continue beating until it is cool.
  3. While beating, cook the remaining ingredients to the crack stage.
  4. Remove and add at once to the first mixture, beating while adding.
  5. When cool, add the vanilla, nut meats, and candied cherries.
  6. Pour into buttered pans.
  7. Smooth over the surface and let it stand overnight before cutting.
  8. In the morning cut and wrap in oiled paper.
