Ingredients for New York Gingerbread Recipe

  • 1 cup butter (scant)
  • 1½ cups flour
  • 2 tablespoons yellow ginger
  • 5 eggs
  • 1½ cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder

Instructions

  1. Cream the butter and gradually add flour. Mix and sift with ginger.
  2. Beat the yolks of the eggs until thick and lemon-colored. Add sugar gradually.
  3. Combine mixtures, add egg whites beaten until stiff, and sift over baking powder.
  4. Beat thoroughly, turn into a buttered deep cake pan, and bake one hour at 350 degrees.
