Ingredients for New England Apple Cream Pie Recipe 1

  • 1 cup diced apples
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon grated lemon rind
  • 1 cup cream
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
  • Gelatine
  • Pastry

Instructions

  1. Simmer apples and lemon rind in the water until dry.
  2. Add sugar, lemon juice, and cream.
  3. Turn into a pastry crust and bake until set.
  4. Make a meringue of whipped cream, vegetable gelatine, and powdered sugar according to the gelatine's instructions. Cover the pie with this.
  5. Tart apples are best used for this pie.
