  • 2 cups brown sugar
  • ¼ cup molasses
  • 3 tablespoons vegetable shortening
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 gill water
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Dissolve sugar in water in saucepan over fire, then add vegetable shortening, molasses, and salt and boil until when tested in cold water it forms a hard ball, or 254 degree F.
  2. Now add vanilla and pour into vegetable shorteninged tin.
  3. When quite cold break into rough pieces.
