Ingredients for Lunch Rolls Recipe 1

  • 1 yeast cake
  • 1¼ cups milk
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable shortening
  • 4 cups flour
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Scald and cool the milk, then add yeast and sugar.
  2. Now add 2 cups flour.
  3. Beat thoroughly, then add well beaten egg, remainder of flour, and salt.
  4. Mix and turn out on floured board and knead lightly and thoroughly, using as little flour as possible.
  5. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and set aside in warm place to rise two hours.
  6. When light, form into small rounds, place one inch apart on greased pan.
  7. Allow to rise half an hour.
  8. Brush over with vegetable shortening and bake at 425 degrees in hot oven for fifteen minutes.
  9. Sufficient for twenty rolls.
