Ingredients for Imperial Roast Recipe

  • 2 cups diced stale bread
  • 2 cups steamed rice
  • 2/3 cup chopped ripe olives
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts
  • 1 raw egg
  • 2 chopped hard-boiled eggs
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons vegetable fat
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 2 stalks diced celery
  • 4 tablespoons chopped onion
  • 1 1/2 cups milk (divided)
  • Savory and salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Put flour and fat into a small saucepan and stir over heat until it turns light brown.
  2. Add savory, onion, and celery and stir for a few moments.
  3. Add 1/2 cup of milk and stir smooth.
  4. Add remainder of the milk and bring to a boil.
  5. Salt to taste, pour over the diced bread, and let stand until cold.
  6. Beat the egg and mix together all the ingredients except the rice.
  7. Fold in the rice using a fork.
  8. Press lightly into one large or two small greased bread tins and bake until lightly browned on top.
  9. Serve plain or with cranberry sauce or gravy.
