Ingredients for Honey Doughnuts Recipe
- 3 eggs
- ½ cup sugar
- 3 tablespoons vegetable shortening
- 1½ cups honey
- 1 cup sour milk
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
- 1 teaspoon lemon extract
- 5¾ cups flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Cream vegetable shortening, honey, and sugar well together.
- Add eggs well beaten and mix well.
- Add milk, lemon extract, flour, salt, soda, and cream of tartar.
- Mix and turn out on baking board.
- Roll out and cut with doughnut cutter or with a round cookie cutter.
- Fry in a deep pot of hot vegetable shortening for 4-5 minutes. The temperature of the vegetable shortening is right if a piece bread browns in sixty seconds.
- Sufficient for sixty-five doughnuts.
