Ingredients for Honey Doughnuts Recipe

  • 3 eggs
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 3 tablespoons vegetable shortening
  • 1½ cups honey
  • 1 cup sour milk
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1 teaspoon lemon extract
  • 5¾ cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Cream vegetable shortening, honey, and sugar well together.
  2. Add eggs well beaten and mix well.
  3. Add milk, lemon extract, flour, salt, soda, and cream of tartar.
  4. Mix and turn out on baking board.
  5. Roll out and cut with doughnut cutter or with a round cookie cutter.
  6. Fry in a deep pot of hot vegetable shortening for 4-5 minutes. The temperature of the vegetable shortening is right if a piece bread browns in sixty seconds.
  7. Sufficient for sixty-five doughnuts.
