Hickory Nut Canapes Recipe

Instructions

  1. Cut bread into slices one-quarter of an inch thick, then with a small biscuit cutter stamp into meat circles; fry them in hot fat or saute in butter until they are golden brown.
  2. Pound in a mortar a pint of shelled hickory nut meats, moisten with a little sweet cream and season with salt and cayenne; when reduced to a thick paste, spread on the prepared bread, dust thickly with grated Parmesan cheese and cook in a quick oven until crisp and brown.
