Ingredients for Ham and Bean Soup Recipe
- 1 pound dry yankee beans
- 4 cups chicken broth
- 1 ham hock
- 1 cup carrots, chopped
- 1/2 stalk celery, chopped
- 1 cup onion, chopped
- 1 teaspoon minced garlic
- 1 teaspoon mustard powder
- 2 bay leaves
- 2 cups chopped ham
- 1/2 teaspoon ground white pepper
Instructions
- Bring the chicken broth to a boil.
- After rinsing and sorting the beans, place them in the chicken broth.
- Remove from heat and let sit for 1 hour.
- Bring the beans back to a boil and add the shank, vegetables, and seasonings.
- Reduce to low and let simmer for 1 hour.
- Add ham, remove the shank, and continue to simmer for 30 minutes.
- Use pepper to taste.
