Ingredients for Fudge Cake Recipe

  • 1/3 cup butter or shortening
  • 1-½ cups sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 2-½ cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup cocoa
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1-½ cups chopped walnut meats
  • 1-½ teaspoons vanilla

Instructions

  1. Cream the butter or shortening and sugar; add the well-beaten egg yolks.
  2. Mix and sift the dry ingredients and add alternately with the milk.
  3. Stir in the chopped nutmeats, well floured, and add the flavoring.
  4. Fold in the stiffly beaten egg whites.
  5. Bake in layer cake tins in a moderate oven (380 degrees F.) for forty-five minutes.
  6. When cold, spread chocolate frosting between layers and on top.
