Ingredients for Fruit Rolls Recipe
- 1 cup milk
- 1 yeast cake
- ¼ cup lukewarm water
- ¼ cup sugar
- ¼ cup melted vegetable shortening
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 2 eggs
- ½ cup chopped cocoanut
- 1/8 lb. chopped candied citron peel
- ½ cup chopped English walnut meats
- ½ cup currants
- ½ cup sultana raisins
- ½ teaspoon powdered cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon powdered mace
- Flour
Instructions
- Scald milk. When lukewarm, add yeast cake dissolved in tepid water and 1 1/2 cups flour. Beat well, cover, and let rise until light.
- Add sugar, salt, well beaten eggs, vegetable shortening, and enough flour to make a dough.
- Knead and let rise again.
- Roll out one-eighth inch thick, spread with melted vegetable shortening, sprinkle with sugar, cinnamon and mace, fruit and nuts. Roll like a jelly roll and cut in one inch pieces.
- Place pieces in greased pan, let rise, and brush over with melted vegetable shortening.
- Bake at 425 degrees for twenty minutes.
- Sufficient for sixteen rolls.
