Ingredients for Fruit Rolls Recipe

  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 yeast cake
  • ¼ cup lukewarm water
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • ¼ cup melted vegetable shortening
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 2 eggs
  • ½ cup chopped cocoanut
  • 1/8 lb. chopped candied citron peel
  • ½ cup chopped English walnut meats
  • ½ cup currants
  • ½ cup sultana raisins
  • ½ teaspoon powdered cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon powdered mace
  • Flour

Instructions

  1. Scald milk. When lukewarm, add yeast cake dissolved in tepid water and 1 1/2 cups flour. Beat well, cover, and let rise until light.
  2. Add sugar, salt, well beaten eggs, vegetable shortening, and enough flour to make a dough.
  3. Knead and let rise again.
  4. Roll out one-eighth inch thick, spread with melted vegetable shortening, sprinkle with sugar, cinnamon and mace, fruit and nuts. Roll like a jelly roll and cut in one inch pieces.
  5. Place pieces in greased pan, let rise, and brush over with melted vegetable shortening.
  6. Bake at 425 degrees for twenty minutes.
  7. Sufficient for sixteen rolls.
