Ingredients for Fruit Bread Recipe 1
- 1 pint water or milk
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 2 tablespoons shortening
- 1 cake compressed yeast
- 3 pints flour
- 1 1/2 cups seeded or seedless raisins (currants or nut meats may also be used)
Instructions
- Sift the flour and mix in the raisins.
- Dissolve the yeast in the water or milk, add the salt, sugar, and shortening.
- Mix in the sifted flour and raisins.
- Allow the dough to rise until very light.
- Knead down gently and allow to rise again until nearly light.
- Divide into two large loaves or three small loaves.
- Mold and place in pans.
- Allow to rise to the top of the pans.
- Bake at 400 degrees for 45-55 minutes.
