Ingredients for Fried Cakes With Apple Sauce Recipe
- 1 cup sugar
- 4 tablespoons vegetable shortening
- 3 cups sour milk
- ¼ teaspoon grated nutmeg
- 1 teaspoon lemon extract
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- Flour
- Apple sauce
Instructions
- Cream vegetable shortening, gradually add sugar, then add salt, nutmeg, lemon, soda, baking powder, sour milk and sufficient flour to make stiffish dough.
- Roll out on floured baking board, cut with large round cutter, and fry in hot vegetable shortening until well cooked and nicely browned on both sides.
- Drain and serve with hot apple sauce.
- Sufficient for 20 cakes.
