Ingredients for Fig Loaf Cake Recipe

  • 1 cup butter or shortening
  • 2 cups brown sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 3 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 cup water
  • ½ pound finely cut figs
  • 2 cups chopped raisins

Instructions

  1. Cream the butter or shortening and add the sugar.
  2. Add the eggs, well beaten.
  3. Mix and sift the dry ingredients and add alternately with the water.
  4. Add figs and raisins, dredged with a little of the flour.
  5. Bake in a greased loaf pan in a slow oven (320 degrees Fahrenheit) about two hours.
