Ingredients for Donut Whole Recipe

  • 1 c. milk, scalded
  • 2 tbsp. butter
  • 1 tbsp. sugar
  • 1 tbsp. brown sugar
  • 1 pkg. yeast
  • 3 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1 egg
  • Dusting of confectioners' sugar for each donut

Instructions

  1. Stir together the butter and sugars, the pour the milk overtop.
  2. Let cool.
  3. Stir in yeast and let dissolve.
  4. Sift together the flour, salt, and nutmeg, then stir half into the milk mixture.
  5. Beat in egg and add remaining flour mixture.
  6. Let rest in a warm place and rise for one hour.
  7. Knead and roll out to 1/4 inch thickness.
  8. Cut into round shapes.
  9. Let rise another hour.
  10. Bring a pot of fat to at least 375 degrees. Drop dough into fat and let turn golden brown.
  11. Dust with sugar if desired.
