Ingredients for Donut Whole Recipe
- 1 c. milk, scalded
- 2 tbsp. butter
- 1 tbsp. sugar
- 1 tbsp. brown sugar
- 1 pkg. yeast
- 3 c. flour
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
- 1 egg
- Dusting of confectioners' sugar for each donut
Instructions
- Stir together the butter and sugars, the pour the milk overtop.
- Let cool.
- Stir in yeast and let dissolve.
- Sift together the flour, salt, and nutmeg, then stir half into the milk mixture.
- Beat in egg and add remaining flour mixture.
- Let rest in a warm place and rise for one hour.
- Knead and roll out to 1/4 inch thickness.
- Cut into round shapes.
- Let rise another hour.
- Bring a pot of fat to at least 375 degrees. Drop dough into fat and let turn golden brown.
- Dust with sugar if desired.
