Instructions

  1. Cream 1 cup vegetable shortening with 1/2 cup sugar, add 2 well beaten eggs, and 1/2 cup milk.
  2. Sift 2 cups flour, 2 teaspoons baking powder, and 1/2 teaspoon salt, and add to vegetable shortening mixture, with 1 teaspoon vanilla extract.
  3. Divide into 2 parts, add to 1 part 2 tablespoons molasses, 1 cup seeded raisins, 1/2 teaspoon cloves, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, and 1/4 teaspoon grated nutmeg.
  4. Bake in vegetable shorteninged and floured cake tin for 20 minutes.
  5. Take out of oven, spread white part on top, return to oven and bake until done.
