Ingredients for Currant Rolls Recipe

  • 2 cups sifted flour
  • 2 slightly rounded teaspoons baking-powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 rounded tablespoon sugar
  • 1 1/2 rounding tablespoons butter
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup of milk
  • 2 tablespoons of creamed butter
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar mixed with 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
  • 3/4 cup of dried currants

Instructions

  1. Sift together the sifted flour, baking-powder, salt, and sugar. Add 1 1/2 rounding tablespoons butter. Rub thoroughly through the flour.
  2. Beat the egg and add milk. Add this to dry material and stir to smooth dough.
  3. Quickly and lightly, turn dough on to flour board and roll out into sheet about 1/4 inch thick.
  4. Spread with 2 tablespoons of creamed butter, sprinkle with granulated sugar and cinnamon mixture, and top with dried currants.
  5. Roll into small, thin rolls.
  6. Bake at 425 degreesfor about twenty to thirty minutes.
