Ingredients for vegetable shortening Sponge Cake

  • 3 eggs
  • 1 cup sugar
  • ½ cup vegetable shortening
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1¼ cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon orange extract
  • ½ cup cold water

Instructions

  1. Cream vegetable shortening; add salt, yolks of eggs well beaten, and sugar, and beat for five minutes, add orange extract and cold water.
  2. Beat up whites of eggs to a stiff froth and add alternately with the flour sifted with the baking powder.
  3. Divide into vegetable shorteninged and floured gem pans and bake in a moderate oven for fifteen minutes.
  4. Sufficient for twelve cakes.
