Ingredients for Chocolate Sponge Cake Recipe
- 2 cups sugar, superfine
- 3/4 cup flour
- 1/2 cup cocoa
- 1 dozen egg whites
- 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
- Sift sugar, cocoa, and flour together in a bowl and set aside for later use.
- Let egg whites come to room temperature and beat them on high until foamy.
- Beat in cream of tartar and vanilla for 5 minutes.
- Using a rubber spatula or spoon, fold in 1/3 of flour mixture to egg mixture. Repeat until all flour mixture is incorporated.
- Pour batter into a 10-inch pan and bake for 35-40 minutes. Cake will spring back when touched with fingers.
