Ingredients for Chocolate Angel Food Cake Recipe

  • 1 dozen egg whites
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup non-self rising cake flour
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup grated semisweet chocolate
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Spread a large piece of parchment paper on your counter. Over the parchment paper, sift half the sugar, salt, baking soda, flour, and cocoa powder.
  2. Add the grated chocolate to the sifted ingredients and set aside.
  3. Using your mixer's whisk attachment or with a hand-whisker, beat egg whites and cream of tartar until it peaks. Slowly mix in remaining sugar and and continue beating until stiff peaks appear.
  4. Beat in almond and vanilla extracts.
  5. Using a large spoon, stir in the grated chocolate mixture until fully incorporated.
  6. Pour into a 10-inch greased and floured baking pan.
  7. Bake for 30-40 minutes in an 350 degree oven.
  8. Cool before frosting.
