Ingredients for Children's Buns Recipe

  • 1 yeast cake
  • 2 cups milk, scalded and cooled
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 6 cups sifted flour
  • ½ cup butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup currants, dusted with flour
  • ½ teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Dissolve the yeast and 1 tablespoon sugar in lukewarm milk. Add to it three cups of flour to make a sponge.
  2. Beat well.
  3. Cover and set aside in a warm place to rise for about an hour.
  4. Cream the butter and cup of sugar. Add to it the well-beaten egg, salt, currants, and the remainder of the flour.
  5. Knead lightly.
  6. Place in greased bowl, cover, and set aside in a warm place for about two to two and one-half hours.
  7. When well-risen, turn out on a kneading board and mold into rolls.
  8. Place in well-greased pans, cover, and let rise again for about one hour or until double in bulk.
  9. Brush with egg diluted with milk.
  10. Bake at 425 degrees for 15-20 minutes.
  11. Upon removing from oven, sprinkle with powdered sugar.
