Instructions

  1. Cut rye, whole wheat or graham bread into slices half an inch thick.
  2. Cut these into strips half an inch wide, after removing the crust.
  3. Grate two ounces of cheese; add a dash of paprika and beat into one-fourth a cup (two ounces) of butter, beaten to a cream.
  4. Spread this mixture on one side of the strips of bread and set them into the oven to melt the cheese.
  5. Serve with a fresh, green salad.
  6. Crackers may be used in place of the strips of bread.
